Transit baggage claim at Rome Airport

HI I haven't travelled since I was small, and I'm being as prepared as possible especially when arriving at such a big airport like Fiumicino.

I'll be arriving to Rome from Sydney Australia and then proceeding towards the domestic terminal to catch a flight to Catania, Sicilly.

What I'm wondering is do I have to claim baggage before I proceed to the domestic terminal? Or is there automatic bag transfers?

If I do have to claim the bags, where do I have to go to get the luggage without getting outside the holding area or whatever it's called, before proceeding to the domestic terminal?

Any help would be great.

Check with your airline regarding baggage transfer

While I would imagine your bag transfer will be handled by the airlines (if you purchased all the flights at the same time), you can't know for sure. It's going to depend on the airline and the airport.

Get in contact with the airlines regarding how your bags will be handled to know for sure ahead of time.
