I visited Germany a couple of years ago, visiting my sister who was stationed at Ramstein AFB. While there, I picked up quite a few brochures of places I wanted to visit.

Unfortunately, I didn't get to half of them.

But, one of them looks pretty cool, and if I ever get the chance to return to the country, this is one of hte sites on my list.

It's called the "Adventure trail to the realm of the spirit of the gorge, and is located in Mittenwald. (http://www.mittenwald.de)

According to the brochure, Leutasch Gorge is "a place of mysterious reality and real mystery." It is "the realm of the Spirit of the Gorge, who gets up to all kinds of tricks deep down in his roaring castle of bottomless whirlppols and foaming maelstromds, of thundering waterfalls and bizarre rock formations."

Sounds like my kind of place!

The 3000-meter-long Mountain Spirit Gorge Trail runs for about 800 meters on a man-made section, and at various stops along the trail the "Spirit of the Gorge has all kinds of mysteries and secrets to tell us about his realm."

Next is the 1,900 meter Goblin trail that goes from Mittenwald Gorge kiosk, past glacier-polished rock into Leutasch Gorge. Goblins posted at specific points share info on the geology and various rocks in the Gorge. At the end of the gorge near Mittenwald, the Waterfall Trail leads deep down into Leutasch Gorge and ends at a 23-meter high waterfall. (There's an admission charge here.)
