Bangkok is the bustling capital city of Thailand. When visiting this faraway country, guests need to be aware that the laws are very different. One thing you should note is that it is a criminal offense to offend (even by making rude comments) the royal family of Thailand. Thailand also is a long flight, so make sure to bring snacks and entertainment options.
One of the best rules to follow is to avoid so-called “Tuk-Tuks.” These are three-wheeled taxis which run on propane and are known to tip over. Not only that, but the drivers often whisk you away to some unwanted retail venue. Other options are available and are safer. Buses and taxis are available in Bangkok.
Another wise move is to pick a reputable hotel. Some of the hotels in Bangkok are downright horrid. Others are quite lovely. You don’t want to book something because it is the cheapest and get all the way there, only to discover you will be residing in a roach motel. Research any hotel you are considering.
Travel in December and January. Though these months represent the “cold” months in Thailand, the temperatures are comparable to summer in Europe. The other months are either too hot for great tourism or too rainy.
If you plan on getting a Thai massage, make sure you stick to a reputable place or you may get more than you expected. Traditional Thai massage focuses on pressure points; try Wat Pho for a relaxing afternoon.
