No one wants to pay top dollar to travel to far flung places. There are numerous ways in which you can ensure you get the best deals on airfare. A little flexibility can go a long way to stretching your budget. If you wish to make the most of your travel budget, you can use the following tips to ensure a cheap plane ticket.

• Be flexible with your travel dates. You would be surprised how much you can save by using the “flexible dates” option on various websites like Travelocity and Kayak.

• Book as far ahead as possible. The earlier you book, the lower your cost, period.

• Smaller airports often have cheaper flights. For example, flying out of Akron-Canton airport may be cheaper than flying out of Hopkins International Airport in Cleveland.

• Traveling as a courier is a way to get an outstanding rate for overseas travel. Companies to check are AirTech and AirCourier.

• Booking tickets through domestic carriers doesn’t always get the cheapest rates for international travel. Sometimes, going through your hotel can get you substantial price reductions in places like Asia and Africa.

• Use discount airlines whenever possible. They aren’t called “discount” arbitrarily.

• Use your frequent flyer miles.

• If you purchase your ticket and then prices go down, you can ask for a price adjustment. Some airlines will do this.
