For anyone who doesn't travel very often, you might find your seldom-used luggage gets a bit musty after sitting in the basement or closet all year long. You should probably store it someplace better if this happens, but when you're getting ready for a trip, it's kind of late.

So you can keep your clothes from also smelling musty when you get to your destination by laying scented fabric softener sheets between some of your clothes. Keeps everything fresh.

When I travel, it's by car, and I have nothing more in mind than stopping at various historic sites, then spending the night in my hotel room reading a book. Because of this, I don't need a lot of fancy clothes.

I pack my underwear and a couple of pairs of shorts and a couple of pairs of shirts, and that's it. Then, when I get to each stop, I purchase a T-shirt as a souvenir. It fills out my wardrobe, and provides a memory of the trip for a long time to come.

Don't assume that only Muslim countries will require women to cover up (either by custom or law). There are many nations with more conservative values than what is typical is North America or Europe.

This can be a particular issue on the many Pacific islands, where you might be tempted to wear short shorts and tank tops to enjoy the sun.

Check with your travel agent, or even call the hotel where you will be staying and ask about appropriate dress.
