Would you rather travel somewhere as part of an organized group, or would you prefer to travel independently?
Everyone will have a different answer to this question. To some people, being part of a packaged tour group is really appealing, but to others, it is stifling. Aside from your personality, a lot of it will depend on where you want to go, and whether or not you already have any travel companions going along with you.
Some people prefer the comfort of traveling in a group, with an experienced guide who can show you the sights and shuffle you from place to place. If you travel as part of a tour group, you won't have to worry about things like booking a hotel room or arranging transportation. All of that will be taken care of for you.
While some people like that amount of comfort and security, the downside to traveling with a tour group is that you lose a great deal of freedom and spontaneity. If you like to just walk out the door and "see what happens", then traveling with a tour group is not for you.
Taking a tour can be great for someone who would otherwise be traveling alone, but wants the companionship of being with others in a group. For a more adventurous spirit, a tour would be too predictable.
Take these factors into consideration when deciding between traveling solo vs traveling as part of a tour group. There are pros and cons to each, and it may largely depend on the destination.
