The Virginia Aquarium has over 700,000 gallons of water in its many tanks, and does its best to ensure that its many denizens of sealife, from loggerhead turtles to sharks to fishes of all kinds, have a healthy environment in which to live.

The Aquarium is huge, and as you walk through it you do get the feeling that it's not a bad place to live...or to visit, either!

The environments depicted are the Bay & Ocean pavilion (that's be the Chesapeake Bay and Atlantic Ocean), the Marsh pavilion, and a nature trail that winds between the aquarium's two buildings.

Sea turtles are an endangered species, and soon aquariums may be the only place to see them. Loggerhead turtles are those most frequently found in Virginia waters. In addition to Loggerheads, the aquarium has a few Kemp's ridley and green turtles, both endangered in the wild.

The museum offers "close encounters" with marine animals as well - whale watching, dolphin watching and seal splash -- guests can go behind the scenes at the aquarium and interact with the seals. Of course, these adventures costs extra.

In addition to the Aquarium and science center, there's also an Imax theater which shows many first run movies and documentaries in 3D.

Entrance to the aquarium is $22.50 for adults, $18.50 for kids age 3-11. IMAX prices start at $8 for adults, $7 for kids.

The Aquarium is off of I-64E on the way to Virginia Beach. To get precise directions, here's the street address: 717 General Booth Blvd.
