If you'd like to get back to a simpler time and place, albeit it only for a few days, check out the Sleepy Hollow Campground, RV Park & Store in Oxford, Iowa.

I admit I like the name only because of its connections to the classic story The Legend of Sleepy Hollow....although that Sleepy Hollow was located in New York!

You can find this campground off of I-80, taking exist 230. The street address is 3340 Blackhawk Avenue.

Although I was driving my own car and staying in motels at night, I well remember my childhood, when my father would take my mom and my two siblings and myself on camping trips. I still remember the feelings of family solidarity that this engendered to this day.

There's a private lake there - no license needed to fish in it. Kids activities are provided every Saturday throughout the summer. There's volleyball, horseshoes, basketball, a pool, bike rentals. The entire family will enjoy Saturday evening hayrack ride-and-then-a-movie.

From this vantage point, you can visit the Amana Colonies (12 miles away), the Kalona Amish Communities (20 miles away), the Herbert Hoover Museum and Library (25 miles away)as well as have shopping fun at the Tanger Outlet Mall in Williamsburg (10 miles away) and the Coral Ridge Mall in Coralville (10 miles away).

Make your plans for a getaway today!
